Problem with R56 install

Postby brightwhite » Sun Jul 18, 2010 2:07 pm

Hey,

I bought the sunroof module for my 2009 MCS in december of 09 and have only just gotten around to installing it. Everything has gone pretty smoothly, up until the testing. My volt meter is broken so I was unable to test the wires first and instead relied on the instructions. All wires have been connected to the proper wires as shown in the instructions.

There are two problems and I'm guessing they may be related:

1. The sunroof opens normally, but will not auto open/close no matter how quickly or slowly the switch is double tapped.
2. The map lights no longer work. All other functions located in this switch pod still work normally (mood light, dome light, normal sunroof operation)

I've done dozens of car stereo installs, trailer hitch wiring installs, etc over the years, so I'm reasonably confident that the unit is installed correctly. I'm loathe to just start tapping other wires to see if the sequence is wrong though.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Update:

I uninstalled the module completely and found a blown 10a fuse in position 16 (map lights, etc). The hardware stores are closed now and I only have the larger 10a fuses so I can't replace that to see if that is the problem, but would the module be affected by this fuse as well?

If the module gets its power from the dome light circuit (and from memory I believe it does) then it will not work with that fuse blown. I would highly recomend double checking all voltages with a working volt meter just to be 100% confident that everything is correct.

Thanks, I will replace that fuse this week and see what happens. Seems odd that the mood light still works in that module still--I'd expect them to all get their power the same way.
