Auto Top Up/Down for G37 Convertible

Postby Earthdog » Mon Oct 12, 2009 12:15 pm

I am looking for a something to simplify the Convertible top up down proceedure. Currently the with the ingnition on you have to have the car in Park and hold the top control button continusly to raise or lower the top. The Cycle is 30 seconds. Can you make a timed relay to preform the function. I don't see a need to bypass the being in park etc...

Ant idea's would help.

We actually just got done making a similar module for a different car. If there is interest in at least 20 of these modules (priced around $49 plus shipping) we would gladly develop something.

Hello,

Is it possible to make a module that will convert the G37 completely when pressing down the open button on the remote? Right now if I keep pressing on it, the windows roll down. Is it possiible to change the function to convert it instead? This feature would be useful, since I would be able to convert it while Im walking to the car, therefore I wouldn't have to sit and wait for another 30 seconds.

Thank you :)

Is there a mechanical latch on the G37 that needs to be undone before the top will open?

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "mechanical latch that needs to be undone before converting". The only thing you have to do before converting, is to pull up the little piece inside the trunk, and lock it into position (same as BMW 3 series convertible).
Just an FYI, there are 2 ways to convert it right now. 1) hold down open button in the console, 2) hold down a little rubber button outside the door (the hands free entry button on the handle of the door).
Please let me know how I can be certain if there is a mechanical latch or not, i will check it right away.

Thanks for your time.

By mechanical latch I simply meant anything that you must manually do before you can open the top. If you have to do something in the trunk is it still beneficial to be able to remotely open the roof?

There is nothing you have to do manually before converting. The piece I am talking about in the trunk just needs to be locked in certain position just to ensure that trunk is empty and theres nothing in it that would damage the roof when converting. Once you have it locked, you can leave it all year around and open and close the roof as many times as you want. So basically answer to your question about mechanical latch is No.
BMW 3 series hardtop convertible offer this feature as an option "Comfort Access with Comfort Loading and Open" which is exactly $500
So do you think it is possible to have something like that?

Thank you

ok, gotcha.

One more question - if you take the metal key out of the keyfob and then place it in the drivers door and turn and hold it in the unlock position does the top go down?

Ok, I just went downstairs to check every possible combination.
1) Hold the metal key in the open position - Opens all 4 windows (front 2, and small triangle ones in the back)
2) Hold the metal key in Close position - Closes all 4 windows.
3) Hold open door button on remote control - opens only 2 front windows (does nothing to back windows)
4) Hold Close door button on remote - does NOTHING. does not roll windows back up
5) Hold little rubber button on the door handle - converts the top (including rolling all 4 windows down first)
6) Hold little rubber button on the door handle again - forgot to test that, but let me know if you need to know this, i'll go
and check. I'm assuming it closes the top, but does not roll the
windows back up. even the close button on the console does not
roll the windows back up. I guess its some kinda safety thing.

Hope this helps. I am very interested in this thing and would let you test it on my car if necessary. The problem is that i'm in New York though.

Thanks,
- Bacho

Well, my idea was to tap in to the button to make it work, but since it only works on the black button, that's a no go because you have to have your intelligent key within range. The other way to do it would be to make the car think the ignition is on which would allow you to just press the button and open the roof.

I think the project is still doable - I will continue to research it.

It would be cool to make a one touch roof controller that has the ability to open and close the roof from the remote!
